Perry, who was the day's guest editor on the Today programme, asked Dr Williams what the driving force was behind people disbelieving climate change.

Dr Williams, who held the senior Church of England post between 2002 and 2012, said some people were reluctant to acknowledge the climate crisis because it would require them to change their behaviour.

December 13 2019 By virtueonline REFLECTIONS ON LEAVING THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND

Also, the biblically-faithful legacy of the Book of Common Prayer and the 39 Articles of Religion was and, to be fair, still is the official doctrine of the CofE, and so an evangelical could join it with spiritual integrity.

December 11 2019 By virtueonline Archbishop Justin, you need some new Jewish friends

May I offer you my warmest greetings in this time of Advent and as we approach the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. We live in difficult times when trust and reconciliation are in short supply. I think we can agree that Advent's anticipation of renewed hope and Hanukkah's rededication to a higher good, are greatly needed.

December 02 2019 By virtueonline Church of England will oppose relaxation of British abortion laws as proposed by opposition parties

As a general rule we would not comment on specifics of party manifestos in the midst of a General Election campaign, but as bishops and as Members of the House of Lords we are fully committed to engagement on this with parties, MPs and Peers when Parliament returns. "It is difficult to comprehend how the Anglican leader can contradict himself so profoundly in his comments about "Censorship Zones". The position adopted by Archbishop Welby is shocking. Justin Welby speaks about love and compassion when he deliberately excludes the most vulnerable members of the human family -- the unborn.

November 27 2019 By virtueonline Decriminalising Abortion: an Open Letter to the Bishops of the Church of England

In light of the Church of England's own teaching that it is strongly opposed to abortion, that "the foetus is a human life with the potential to develop relationships, think, pray, choose and love", and that the Church "would like to see a drastic reduction in the number of abortions carried out and stricter interpretation of abortion law" (press statement of the Mission and Public Affairs Council for General Synod, 30 August 2011), we write, as members of the Church of England (and a small n

November 25 2019 By virtueonline Chichester Cathedral moves to restore Bishop George Bell

The Chichester Cathedral guidebook had included a passage which reflected the Church of England's acceptance of the allegations of child abuse against Bishop George Bell, notwithstanding the conclusions of the two independent reports into the allegations by Lord Carlile and Timothy Briden, which each concluded that the evidential basis for such allegations was unsafe.
