April 05 2010 By virtueonline Rowan Williams on the uniqueness of Christ

Those who have read or heard Williams before may well expect that he will proceed to redefine the expressions 'the uniqueness of Christ' and 'the finality of Christ' in the light of these objections. They may also expect that these redefinitions will involve a significant departure from the way these terms have been used by reformed and evangelical thinkers since at least the time of the Reformation.

He did not elaborate as to what those other sexualities and other letters of the alphabet might be. As the preface notes, "this project was commissioned in the spring of 2008 by the House of Bishops of the Episcopal Church, to be overseen by the Theology Committee."

March 22 2010 By virtueonline The Anglican Communion as Communion of Churches - Michael Poon

The paper then explores the potentials of communion-ecclesiology for the Anglican Covenant. It goes on to argue that the Anglican Covenant, grounded in the New Covenant, provides the canonical structure of the Anglican Communion. It constitutes the particular Churches to be a confident Communion of Churches. The inter-Anglican structures of the Anglican Communion should in fact be the ecclesiastical embodiment of the Anglican Covenant.

March 20 2010 By virtueonline Is The Bible More Violent Than The Quran?

When Osama bin Laden declared war on the West in 1996, he cited the Quran's command to "strike off" the heads of unbelievers. More recently, U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Hasan lectured his colleagues about jihad, or "holy war," and the Quran's exhortation to fight unbelievers and bring them low. March 12 2010 By virtueonline Of Earthquakes and End Times

But wait. How often do we go back and read what the Bible actually says? Revelation, of course, depicts apocalyptic earthquakes during the tribulation itself of a greater magnitude than anything the world has ever seen. But the place in Scripture where people turn to make a link between "ordinary" earthquakes and the nearness of the end is Jesus' Olivet Discourse. I've excerpted the relevant verses above. Along with earthquakes are mentioned several other kinds of plagues on humanity.

"We cannot by our best works merit pardon of sin, or eternal life at the hand of God, by reason of the great disproportion that is between them and the glory to come; and the infinite distance that is between us and God, whom, by them, we can neither profit, nor satisfy for the debt of our former sins, but when we have done all we can, we have done but our duty, and are unprofitable servants: and because, as they are good, they proceed from his Spirit; and as they are wrought by us, they are

March 03 2010 By virtueonline THE VOCATION OF CHRISTIANS IN AMERICAN PUBLIC LIFE

The first caveat is this: My thoughts tonight are purely my own. I don't speak for the Holy See, or the American Catholic bishops, or the Houston Catholic community. In the Catholic tradition, the local bishop is the chief preacher and teacher of the faith, and the shepherd of the local Church. Here in Houston you have an outstanding bishop - a man of great Christian faith and intellect - in Cardinal Daniel DiNardo. In all things Catholic tonight, I'm glad to defer to his leadership.
