Reveal your choicest secrets
That in Jesus are disclosed,
Your promises and precepts
Through which we are disposed

To earnestly yearn for you,
To seek and to discover
That you alone - alone - are True,
And of this quest the Mover.

For in all our soul's much doing
To find this sweet attachment
'Tis due to your strong wooing
That we succumb to you enchantment.

December 04 2014 By dvirtue WAITING TO CROSS OVER: Hebrews 9:26-28

Here, too, is the place for us to build a grand suspension bridge, by which, through faith, we ourselves may cross from this side to the other of the stormy river of time....At his first advent, we adore him with gratitude, rejoicing in 'God with us', as making himself to be our near kinsman. We gather with grateful boldness around the infant in the manger, and behold our God. But in the second advent we are struck with a solemn reverence, a trembling awe.

The people to whom Jesus was talking (Matthew 24) could not have believed his warnings about the destruction of Jerusalem. He told them that it would be so sudden that, of two men working in a field, one would die and the other would be saved, of two women grinding flour, one would die and the other be saved. Many Christians who remembered these words of Jesus fled Jerusalem when the Roman armies appeared in 69 A.D. and thus saved their lives. Those who did not heed him, perished.

November 23 2014 By dvirtue The Hardest Sermon to Prepare and Preach

In one of those classes where they try to teach seminary students how to preach, our professor said, "The hardest sermon to preach year in and year out is the Thanksgiving sermon." That stuck with me. You might imagine then how I felt when I got my senior preaching assignment. I was to preach a Thanksgiving sermon before the whole student body and faculty with the sermon followed by public faculty criticism.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Most Biblical scholars agree that the apostle Paul composed Philippians while he was in prison, Greg Carey, a professor of New Testament at Lancaster Theological Seminary, told HuffPost.

November 13 2014 By dvirtue THE VICTORY OF FAITH: 1 John 5:1-12

How do you survive and overcome in this battle of life? St. John tells that our greatest weapon is our faith: "This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith." That faith is in Jesus, the Son of God. He has won the victory, and we share in his victory as we trust in him. "He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Cor.15:57)

November 06 2014 By dvirtue WHERE IS LOVE TO BE FOUND? - 1 John 4:7-21

"What is it that makes a person great, admired by creation, well pleasing in the eyes of God? What is it that makes a person strong, stronger than the whole world; what is it that makes him weak, weaker than a child? What is it that makes a person unwavering, more unwavering than a rock; what is it that makes him soft, softer than wax? -- it is love! What is it that is older than everything? It is love. What is it that outlives everything? It is love.

We believe in Marxfreudand Darwin.
We believe everything is O.K.
As long as you don't hurt anyone
To the best of your definition of hurt
And to the best of your knowledge......

We believe that all religions are basically the same
At least the one that we read was.
They all believe in love and goodness.
They only differ on matters of
Creation, sin, heaven, hell, God and salvation......

October 30 2014 By dvirtue The Word Incarnate

As the Son of God who was the Word, Jesus knew our limits to comprehending His Father's message. Preaching to urban populations generations removed from their agrarian roots, Jesus drew on the Jews' heritage as shepherds, winemakers and fishermen to show God's love for His creation: the shepherd who left his flock to seek the lost sheep, the winemaker whose tenants stole his winepress, the fishermen who left their nets to become fishers of men.
