According to Water Wheels for Africa (WWFA), the average cost to dig a water well is $8,000. However, this figure includes more than drilling a hole and installing a pump. Each well serves 2,000 people. That means it costs $4.00 to give a person clean water and help them live long and live better. Is that expensive? Not by any means. For every latte you order at Starbucks, WWFA could use that money to supply a person with clean water for 20 years.

So, for $8 million, you could build and operate 1,000 water wells to bring life saving water to several African nations.

World Vision says its Child sponsorship program costs $39 per month and it has a huge multiplier effect.
