The Anglican Province of Nigeria's House of Bishops have elected two new archbishops and four bishops while meeting Jan. 6-10 at the Ibru Conference Center in Agbara-Otor in the Delta State. Two suffragan bishops were elected to serve the Anglican Diocese of the West in the United States: the Ven. Scott Seely and the Ven. Celestine Ironna.

The bishops elected the Rt. Rev. Ibrahim Makus, the Bishop of Yola to be the new Archbishop of the Jos province, and elected the Rt. Rev. Cyril Odutemu, Bishop of Ughelli, as Archbishop of Bendel province.

Two diocesan bishops were elected: The Rev. Canon Cletus Tambari will become the Bishop of Gombe, and the Rev. Canon Benson Chukwunwike will become the Bishop of Awgu Aninri.

Dates for the consecrations have yet to be announced.

FOOTNOTE: The Archbishop of Nigeria, Nicholas Okoh issued a statement following my recent story that exposed the intention of Nigerian Anglicans to have their own diocese if not their own province in North America. You can read my story and Archbishop Okoh's pushback and then they go and do this! https://virtueonline.org/anglican-church-nigeria-plans-big-push-us-2020-updated
