I began attending an Episcopal Church in 1970 at All Saints' San Diego. In the fall of 1971, I began an M.Div. program at Seabury Western Theological Seminary under the spiritual direction of Fr. Paul Satrang. I became a Postulant of the Diocese of Los Angeles with the encouragement of Bishop Bloy.

It has seemed to me your leadership has been stern, closed to those disagreeing with your points of view, and more judicial and legal than pastoral, which is not what I expect from a Bishop. You write demanding letters designed to show that you are in control and all must give in to you. You claim that everyone else is divisive and disingenuous. I agree that in difficult times what is called for is love on both sides.

September 12 2006 By virtueonline THE REAL LEGACY OF 9/11

Last night there was something else: a powerful twin beam rising from Ground Zero. Reaching higher and brighter than anything else, and merging into one column before it dissipated, it lasted about five minutes, then suddenly went dead--probably a practice run for the fifth anniversary of 9/11.

September 09 2006 By virtueonline CANADA: Why I left the Anglican Church for Rome

As a result of his instruction, and a growing personal conviction that there is no viable Protestant alternative, I am returning - definitely not to the religion of my father (a Calvinist Presbyterian) - but to the religion of my father's fathers.

September 09 2006 By virtueonline WASHINGTON, DC: Khatami Comes to National Cathedral

According to the National Cathedral's website, Khatami was the "first reformist president" of Iran following the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Indeed, the website gushes, the mullah was elected with the "broad support of women and young adults" and is "credited with the promotion of the rule of law, democracy, and the inclusion of all Iranians in the political decision-making process."

August 31 2006 By virtueonline VIRGINIA: Bishop Minns Writes Parish on his return as new CANA Bishop

We began with the General Convention in Columbus, Ohio. The stakes were high. The question of whether or not The Episcopal Church (TEC, formerly known as ECUSA) would walk apart from the rest of the Anglican Communion was on the table. It was the moment of decision. Sadly, however, Angela and I observed first hand TEC embrace a vision and choose a course that we cannot follow. This has been agonizing for Angela and me.
