The twenty-year journey has been ably documented in this volume and dedicated to the late James I. Packer (1926-2020) teacher, author and friend, who on that fateful day in June walked out with his fellow Anglicans, never more to return. Packer was later deposed by the bishop. He responded to being told he had abandoned the ministry, retorting "poppycock", a bishop, he said, can revoke your license but he cannot negate your ministry.

But it is not true in every instance. Far from it. President Warren Smith of MinistryWatch in an address to the Evangelical Press Association Annual Conference, recently gave credit to journalists who exposed several individuals and institutions who were systematically and unaccountably violating their ministries. They were doing all of that in the name of power and money, resulting in sexual abuse and much more.

For those unfamiliar with this common-to-universities phenomenon, it meant that Samford's policy was now to make race a factor in every course and club at the university. But not race per se. It was to be assumed that blacks are now persecuted more than any other race, and that they are to be preferred to other races when choices are made about faculty, staff, and even discussion topics. America was presumed to be systemically racist.
