ST. LOUIS: Conservative ECUSA Bishops Gather to Uphold Windsor Report

BISHOPS GATHER AT ST. LOUIS TO UPHOLD WINDSOR REPORT

By David W. Virtue

ST. LOUIS, MO (6/29/2005)--A group of ECUSA bishops including two orthodox Primates and a Nigerian Archbishop met recently in St. Louis to examine in detail what was said and meant in the Windsor Report.

The meeting was not made public, but VirtueOnline learned that it was called by Bishop Ed Salmon (South Carolina) and included Bishop Peter Beckwith (Springfield) and Bishop James Stanton (Dallas) and a number of Network leaders.

The overseas Primates present were Gregory Venables (Southern Cone) and Drexel Gomez (Nassau/Bahamas). Nigerian Archbishop Josiah Fearon was also present.

A draft document did not emerge from the meeting, but it was agreed by all present that they would agree "to be loyal to the Anglican Communion as the Windsor Report sets out."

The gathering of mostly conservative bishops also included some who have never before come forward.

A reliable source, a bishop, told VirtueOnline that one ECUSA bishop who voted for V. Gene Robinson said on the floor of the House of Bishops; "The evidence would seem to indicate the approval of Gene Robinson may have been a mistake."
