New ACNA bishop consecrated for Western Anglicans
The Rev. Keith Andrews is consecrated in Newport, CA, as Bishop for the Diocese of Western Anglicans

ACNA News Release
January 29, 2015

The Rev. Keith Andrews, elected bishop by the College of Bishops of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) last October, was consecrated as the second bishop of the Diocese of Western Anglicans on Sunday January 25, 2015, in Newport Beach, CA.

Bishop Andrews succeeds Bishop William Thompson, who has served as bishop of the Diocese of Western Anglicans since 2009.

The Most Rev. Dr. Foley Beach, Archbishop of the Anglican Church in North America, was the consecrating Bishop, and was joined by ten other bishops from around the province.

The Rt. Rev. John A.M. Guernsey, Bishop of the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic, was the consecration's preacher. In his sermon he focused on the Book of Acts, inviting those in attendance to consider Paul's picture of a church fulfilling the Great Commission.

"When they came together for worship in Antioch, they came with an expectancy of meeting God," said Bishop Guernsey. "They came open to God, eager to give him praise, passionate to know him more, receptive to what he wanted to do in their lives. Worship is coming into the presence of God to give him the glory that he alone is worthy to receive, it is encountering the living God who longs to show you himself and to make known to you his will."

About 700 people attended the consecration held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach, CA. It was organized by the Rev. Richard Crocker and the Rev. Cathie Young of St. James Anglican Church in Newport Beach.

"We had a wonderful time of worship, we had wonderful preaching, and a wonderful sense of the diocese of seeing a new chapter open up," said the Rev. Richard Crocker, rector of St. James Anglican Church in Newport Beach, FL. "We're excited to see what's going happen!"

Attending bishops included the Rt. Rev. John A.M. Guernsey, Bishop of the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic; the Rt. Rev. Todd Hunter, Bishop of the Diocese of Churches for the Sake of Others; the Rt. Rev. Clark Lowenfield, Bishop of the Diocese of the Western Gulf Coast; the Rt. Rev. Frank Lyons, Assisting Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of the South; the Rt. Rev. Eric Menees, Bishop of the Diocese of San Joaquin; the Rt. Rev. John Miller, III, Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of the Atlantic; the Rt. Rev. William Murdock, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of New England; the Rt. Rev. William Thompson, Retired Bishop of the Diocese of Western Anglicans; the Rt. Rev. Mark Zimmerman, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of the Southwest; and the Rt. Rev. Derek Jones, Bishop of the Armed Forces and Chaplaincy.

Also attending the consecration were the Rev. Yee Ching Wah, Dean of the Anglican Church in Thailand, Province of Southeast Asia, Anglican Communion; the Rev. Marv Combs, North American Lutheran Church; the Honorable Matthew Harper, California State Assembly, 74th District; and noted author and pastor Gary Kinnaman.

"The local congregations of the diocese appreciated being able to see our new bishop consecrated and meet our new archbishop as well," the Rev. Richard Crocker said. "We felt connected with the wider church!"

"There is a remarkable and encouraging amount of ethnic diversity amongst the congregations that make up the Diocese of Western Anglicans," Archbishop Beach said following the consecration. "I am excited about Bishop Andrews' ability to minister across such unique communities and lead them into the mission field."
