Adding to the pressure on Griswold and the hierarchy of the Episcopalian Church, Queen Elizabeth II has told the head of the worldwide Anglican communion, Rowan Williams, she will not tolerate the 2.3 million-member Episcopalian Church splitting the Anglican communion over its gay and lesbian agenda, said David Virtue, a conservative analyst of the church.

Buckingham Palace declined to confirm or deny that report.

September 08 2004 By virtueonline LONDON: US bishops fly in for 'sanctions' talks

The delegation has the support of the liberal Primate of the American Episcopal Church, Bishop Frank Griswold, who presided at the consecration of Gene Robinson as Bishop of New Hampshire.

Bishop Griswold is also understood to have brought forward a trip to London. The bishop, who faces the humiliating prospect of being barred from the annual primates meetings, the highest Anglican council, was due to fly to Britain on Friday but will now leave the US today.

The Sept. 15 event will feature a mass choir, confirmation candidates from 11 churches in Northern Virginia and former Archbishop of Canterbury George Carey, who will place his hands on the heads of each person being confirmed as an adult Christian.

Truro Episcopal Church in Fairfax will split the confirmations into two evening services to accommodate 200 to 300 confirmands, their guests and dozens of musicians and clergy.

In July Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, ordained 14 priests in his cathedral. Nine of them were women and only five were men.

Last year the Bishop of Salisbury ordained 18 women priests and only eight men. About half of those in training for the priesthood are now women. The dramatic change raises the prospect of the Church of England becoming similar to professions such as nursing and teaching, where females dominate.

protracted legal battle over ownership of the parish property and
Bruno's jurisdiction over the breakaway priests.

An attorney for the three parishes on Friday rejected Bruno's claims
and said services would go on as usual Sunday, led by the three
breakaway priests.
