Presiding Bishop Curry has gotten his "radical inclusion" and "good disagreement" lines down pat, even as he continues to spend millions of dollars suing congregations out of their property in South Carolina and Fort Worth. Surely the "good news" that PB Curry is sending to conservatives remaining in TEC is: "believe what you will, but don't try to leave or you'll see how far good disagreement stretches." --- Stephen Noll

If you notice that your next-door neighbor's house is on fire, you would take radical action to alert those inside and try to save life. No polite prayer meetings or wondering if it would be rude to intervene. You would instead smash down the door or bust some windows to get in and seek to alert others and save life. Sinners heading to a lost eternity also need such drastic action.

What is and what will be. Already the kingdom of God has been inaugurated and is advancing; not yet has it been consummated. Already the new age (the age to come) has come, so that we have 'tasted ... the powers of the coming age'; not yet has the old age completely passed away. We live in a culture where the prevailing wisdom is that we are justified in our actions if we believe that God or Nature has made us the way we are. "We are born this way...." This is the justification for many who choose alternative lifestyles, differing sexual identities, and genders. It is also the justification for anti-social behavior and refusal to accept the work requirements necessary for education attainments, occupational training, and healthy family life.

The gun is our Moloch. We sacrifice children to him daily--sometimes, as at Sandy Hook, by directly throwing them into the fire-hose of bullets from our protected private killing machines, sometimes by blighting our children's lives by the death of a parent, a schoolmate, a teacher, a protector. Sometimes this is done by mass killings (eight this year), sometimes by private offerings to the god (thousands this year).

Life expectancy decrease is about more than just drugs. Anne Casae, an economist at Princeton University who has published and researched so-called "Deaths of Despair", notes, it's also about suicide and alcohol, especially among white people. She says "we think of it all being signs that something is really wrong and whatever it is that's really wrong is happening nationwide". She points to the decline of well-paying jobs with annual increases, job security and good benefits.
