What Mr Young observed here, of course, was the twin evils of syncretism and subjectivism. The mixture of religions, together with the endorsement of any religion without discrimination, is what the gospel delivered us from. The idea that we are the source of God's life ('the god who is God in your judgement') takes us back to the idolatry of old, where the gods were made according to the imagination of our hearts, rather than the God who reveals himself to us in spirit and in truth.
Read moreI was raised in The Episcopal Church, being taught that it was part of the One, True, Holy, Church, established by Christ. I was taught that as part of the Anglican Communion, the Episcopal Church was maintaining the faith as the Apostles had given it to us and as they had received it from Jesus Himself - and that the threefold ministry of Bishop, Priests, and Deacons (Apostolic Succession) was an outward and visible proof of this fact.
Read moreThe friendship based on enjoyment is involves more affiliation. The basis for the association is because the two people enjoy each other's company. They are a pleasure to be around. You might have a neighbor you find pleasing to be around near not because he lends you tools (he may) but because you like his personality or agree with his politics or share his worldview.
Read moreIn response, I confidently point to the good work of the Church in Mississippi and Louisiana and note that if we do not stand for the poor, no one will. If the Church does not raise a cry for justice, no one will. If the Church does not continue to feed the poor, house the homeless, heal the sick and give hope where it has been washed away, no one will. I think our efforts in Louisiana are exemplary as are those good works done in Christ's name in Mississippi.
Read moreAs you see it, what is evangelicalism, and why does it matter? An evangelical is a plain, ordinary Christian. We stand in the mainstream of historic, orthodox, biblical Christianity. So we can recite the Apostles Creed and the Nicene Creed without crossing our fingers. We believe in God the Father and in Jesus Christ and in the Holy Spirit. Having said that, there are two particular things we like to emphasize: the concern for authority on the one hand and salvation on the other.
Read moreThe second point is about representation. Those who went to Kigali were either the Archbishops from the Global South or representatives of the primates. The Archbishops from the Global South have all emerged from various processes of election, not like the bishops and archbishops in the English Church by appointment. They do represent their people. They are sensitive to their constituency. When they go out, they are not going out to represent themselves. They represent their Province.
Read moreIt is unrealistic and most unwise to send Biblically committed clergy and congregations back to a synod and bishop who have so tragically abandoned the foundations of the faith. These faithful clergy and people need the jurisdiction of a bishop who is fully committed to Biblical faith and Anglican tradition and practice.

I don't want to argue the merits of the Millennium Goals. I would say that these goals, and others like them, are worthy of Christian concern and response. Leave it to later discussions to determine who exactly gets the .7 percent of our dollars, whether it goes to direct relief, or to some U.N. agency or bureaucracy, along with a whole host of other practical questions.
Read moreWhat I did not want to find, in addition to obviously associated groups that seemed liberal catholic (not my interest), was a preponderance of groups of Anglicans involved in the lesbian, bisexual, gay, and transsexual way of life. There were many groups having the letters “LBGT”. I did not examine to see which might have been healing ministries, if any.
